EVIE LADIN BAND
Friday, April 5
Playing traditional Americana and original tunes with a strong contemporary edge, The Evie Ladin Band—Evie, Erik Pearson and Keith Terry — have played at Fifth Street over the years and they’re always a hot ticket. Wherever they play, the band’s technique, spirit and musicianship have folks on their feet—to move, to get better views of Evie’s flatfoot dancing, her clawhammer banjo technique, Erik’s guitar picking and Keith’s slap bass and body percussion. This show is a new CD release date. Here’s a link to some tunes.
Ladin’s voice is a revelation. Clear, strong, delicate and emotive all at the same time…her exemplary examples of adult love songs deal with complicated subject matter, yet never lose their swing or get bogged down by maudlin sentimentality…the music is gorgeous.

Extraordinary instrumental skill, touch, harmonies and style mark world-class bluegrass musicians John Reischman and the Jaybirds—Trisha Gagnon, Nick Hornbuckle, Patrick Sauber, and Greg Spatz. Fifth Street veterans, we’re always thrilled to have them back: it doesn’t get much better than this. Reischman is one of the country’s best mandolinists, and he’s surrounded himself with the cream of instrumental talent. Here’s the link to their website.

CALEB KLAUDER & REEB WILLMS
Monday, April 29
Do you notice a pattern here? Two of the West Coast’s most outstanding roots musicians, Caleb and Reeb stretch my attempts at superlative language. Wonderful harmonies, great spirit and humor, and the best taste in the business. A rare chance to hear just the two of them, after their bluegrass band plays at the Freight the weekend before. Don’t miss this show. Listen to some music here.
