Musica Pacifica–Saturday, October 6
Baroque ensemble Musica Pacifica has made its mark on the early music scene here in the Bay Area and beyond. They’ve performed several times at the Berkeley Early Music Festival, as well as at other festivals and series around the country. Individually, the musicians who make up Musica Pacifica perform with Philharmonia Baroque, American Bach Soloists and many other prominent early music ensembles.
Musicians Judith Linsenberg, recorder; Ingrid Matthews, violin; Gretchen Claassen, cello/viola da gamba; Derek Tam, harpsichord and Peter Maund, percussion will treat us to a selection of Baroque Folk and Dance Music from Scotland, Ireland, and England–a program they call “Dancing in the Isles”. They’ll play their own arrangements of traditional Irish and Scottish folk tunes, a Purcell theater suite, Jacobean masque music, a hybrid Scottish Baroque trio sonata by Oswald, English country dance tunes, an English “division” on a folk tune, and Purcell’s famous “Three Parts upon a Ground.”
You can watch parts of “Dancing in the Isles” in a video from the 2010 Berkeley Early Music Festival here.
Join us for a rollicking, good time, 17th century style!
