Friction Quartet — Saturday, January 20
Is there anything the Friction Quartet can’t do? Whether it’s pieces they’ve commissioned or standard string quartet repertoire, Haydn, John Adams or a Lady Gaga cover, they excel at it all. Their versatility puts them in a class of their own. They’ve won awards internationally and collaborated with artists in a variety of genres. We’re fortunate they’re based in San Francisco and thrilled they have time between tours to spend an evening at Fifth Street.
The program:
Joseph Haydn, op. 33 no. 1
Will Healy, Future Caprices
Bedřich Smetana, String Quartet no. 2
John Adams, First Quartet, mvmt. 2
Here’s a short documentary that focuses on their commitment to introducing young audiences to classical music.
And here’s a video of them playing the John Adams movement they’ll be playing for us, a video John Adams himself posted a link to on his home page, calling it “spectacular”.
We think they’re spectacular, too. Don’t miss this chance to hear them in a rare East Bay appearance.
See the CONCERTS page to make reservations.
