Aviary Players — Saturday, December 16

Just in time for the holidays, we’re thrilled to be presenting the Aviary Players, an international group of chamber musicians currently based in San Francisco. Founded by bass player Megan Adie, with violinists Monika Gruber and Akiko Kojima, the Players’ repertoire spans four centuries, brought to life with both passion and historically informed perspectives.

Whether playing violone in groups specializing in music of the 17th and 18th centuries, double bass in symphony orchestras, or bass instruments in renaissance consorts, Megan Adie performs with a spirit and precision worthy of each genre. Megan is principal bassist with Concerto Copenhagen, and has worked with orchestras throughout Europe and in California. She is also the bass player in the American old-time band, The Crooked Jades, with whom she recently recorded a new album.

Violinist Monika Gruber‘s performances and awards as a chamber musician include appearances at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall as the 1st Prize Winner of the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition and at Festival del Sole in Napa. She performs and records lots of new music by Bay Area composers and enjoys playing in new music ensembles such as Opéra Parallèle. In addition, Monika teaches violin and chamber music at the SF Conservatory of Music’s Pre-College Division.

A musician of diverse interests, violinist Akiko Kojima has performed with the Toronto Symphony, recorded with Feist and Jacksoul, and toured the Maritime Provinces of Canada with the musical “Clouds.” Akiko performs regularly with the Marin Symphony, California Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra and the Santa Rosa and Santa Cruz Symphonies.
